5 Tlie date of trials was left in abey- , ance in the meantime,, a suitable date 5 to be fixed upon later. ~ The subscription was fixed the same ■ as lust year—viz., 10s tkl. 1 The secretary was donated the sum ■ £2 for the past season. It was decided that the usual d&nce " be held in the Athenaeum Hall on the fust night of the trials. i The ground for the trial was not fixed up, but the suitability of last year*s ground was freely acknowledged, and the hope was expressed that the club would get it again this year. AUTOMATIC FLYING. The Aero Club of America has awarded to Mr Orville Wright the Collier Trophy given each, year in recognition of the most significant advance in the science of flying. The award was made after Mr Orville Wright had completed 17 Mights with an aeroplane fitted with | his new automatic stabiliser. i Seven of the flights were made while ' the airman kept his hands entirely aloof from the stabiliser. The turns of the aeroplane were effected with a precision which the onlookers described as mar- j rellous. Mr Orville Wright afterwards ' stated that he expected within the next week or two to develop the stabiliser t» a condition of perfection and then he would disclose its construction to the public. With the stabiliser working satisfactorily he added, anyone with) 20 minutes instruction will be able in future to pilot an aeroplane with reasonable
