School Committee.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Roxburgh School Committee was held in the school on Wednesday evening, there being present :—Messrs J. Morrin (chairman), W. Mercer, W. Weaver, J. Rattray (secretary), and Mr Fitt (relieving headmaster). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following memo, was read from the secretary of the Otago Education Board :—I have to inform you that your letter of 9th inst. (1) renewing the Roxburgh School Committee's application for the erection of a new room for the school, and (2) urging the necessity for painting the outside and distempering the inside of the school and renewing the spouting of the , playshed, was laid before the Education Board at its meeting yesterday, when it was decided (1) to fer to the Inspector of Schools for report the application for increased accommodation at the school, and .(2) to refer to the* architects for report the application for painting and repairs to playshed.—The letter was received.

The Acting-Headmaster reported as follows :—1 have to report that the average roll for the four weekg ending March 31st was 179, and the average attendance was 171. The roll opened this week with 102 boys and 77 girls ; total 179.—The report was read and received. The following accounts were passed for payment :—W. Mercer lis lid, Mt. Benger Mail 15s 6d, Fire Insurance ss; total £1 12s 6d.

It was resolved, that the Chairman and Secret ary draw up the annual report, to bo submitted to the annual meeting of householders on 27th April inst. It was resolved, that the coal dross be cleaned out of the coal shed and a coal bucket and axe be procured for the use of the janitress ; also that the latches on school doors be attended to.
