Melnerney moved that £ IUO be spent (chargeable to Browns and Gabriels Hiding) on repairs t< the main road, between Lawrence and Beaumont, and that application b« made to the Government for a grant o> £IOO to assist in the work <ji grading, &c. The application for the gran, was promptly despatched to the Hon. James Allen, our member, and in connection therewith the following satisfactory reply has just been received from the Lnder Secretary for Public Works Department " Referring to the application made by you to th Hon. James Allen for a giant oi £IOO (£1 for £), to assist in grading and metalling the above road, 1 have to advise jou that the Minister ha approved of the grant of £101) being made as desired . Formal authority for the expenditure of the amount will be issued to you when proposals have been submitted and approved by the District Engineer."
