in an article on the State Experimental Farm at ltuakura, a special correspondent of the New Zealand Herald states that last year tho returns from butter-fat from the herd of Jerseys kept at ltuakura was jCIo 18s per acre ; from the herd of shorthorns it averaged £l7 '2s per acre. The bull calves from the Jerseys sold at an average of £4O each. Many North Canterbury farmers are under the impression that they will yet iret up to £lO a ton for their potatoes on account of the devastation caused by blight in other centres. Although it is reasonable to expect that prices will firm, it would be unwise for farmers to hold on l° r speculative purposes. Ha profitable price is offering- it would be better to quit. •Judging from reports there is not the shortage many at present believe.
