Manawatu Cricket
At the Manawatu Cricket Association’s executive meeting last night it was decided to reply in answer to a communication from the Wellington Cricket Association, that there should be a resumption of the town versus country cricket match before Xmas. Mr. A. M. Ongley, the chairman, stated that although there was comment against the Town and Country match, there was, in his opinion, much to be said for its resumption, especially if the incentive to the younger players was considered.
Hawkes Bay, the next challenger for the Hawke Cup, suggested in a letter to the association that the game be played off at tho end of January, but the executive decided that the matter be left for consideration in view of the fact that a Hawke Cup match at the end of January would mean a disruption of the weekly club fixtures. An invitation from the Wairarapa Cricket Association to a senior and junior team to visit Wairarapa from Manawatu ou Anniversary Day for one day matches, was received, and it was decided that the association would endeavour to make the necessary arrangements.
Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert gave notice that he would accept the post of patron of the association with pleasure. Similar communications were received from Mr. A. E. Mnnsford who was re-elected to the position of president, and Mr. J. R. Hardie accepted the vice-presidency.
