Changes Announced in South African Cabinet

PRETORIA, Nov. 9. Field-Marshal Smuts announced a number of Cabinet changes due to the withdrawal of tho Labour Party from the wartime Coalition and the resignation of tho leader of the Labour Party, Mr. W. B. Madeley. Colonel C. F. Stevn, who has been Minister of Justice since 1939, succeeds Sir. Madeley as Minister of Labour, Mr. H. O. Lawrence, at present Minister of Welfare and Demobilisation, becomes Minister of Social Welfare. and Justice. Dr. Henry Gluckman has been appointed Minister of Health and Housing. Mr. Gluckman is the first Jew to attain Cabinet rank in South Africa.
