Japanese War Crimes

EFFICIENT LISTING SYSTEM. LONDON, Nov. 9. I The system of listing Japanese suspected or accused of war crimes is working efficiently and fairly, reports the Exchange Telegraph agency’s correspondent at Southeast Asia Command Headquarters. Over 2000 suspects have been listed. Of those, more than 900 have been notified from the Dominions, China, America, Holland, and other Allied nations, and submitted through the United Nations War Crimes Commission. Many Japanese have been arrested and arc awaiting trial while war prisoners’ affidavits are being prepared. Describing the means by which the lists of suspects are prepared, the correspondent says that immediately after the Japanese surrender investigating officers rushed prisoners of war and internees to camps. To ensure that even the lowliest camp guards guilty of such acts will be punished, every released person was given a form on which ho could record the rank, name, and unit of tho alleged criminal and also the crime for which he was accused and particulars of the time, place, and names of witnesses. The registry of war crimes at Kandy’ records the information. Lists of suspects are prepared which are forwarded to investigators in the occupied or liberated territories, where, if necessary, suspects are arrested. If a Dominion national is concerned, information is sent to his country.
