Annamese Resistance

FAIRLY STRONG SOUTH OF SAIGON SAIGON, Nov. 8. An Allied Control Commission com munique says that patrols mopping up south of Saigon met fairly strong resistance from armed Annamese. Allied planes dropped leaflets warning local populations to return to their homes. Three thousand three hundred French troops landed from the Orontes. A Japanese army patrol rescued a foraging party of men of the Royal Navy which was ambushed by Annamese snipers after straying beyond the Saigon perimeter in search of food. Ten Annamese were killed, and there were no naval casualties. A French communique states that of 290 Europeans who have been kidnapped by Annamese since September 24, 17 are known to have been killed, 53 escaped and 220 are still missing.
