City Council to Pay £4225 Compensation

LAND TAKEN AT HOKOWHITU FOR CITY MOTOR CAMP

Compensation amounting to £4225 ora s awarded to John Baptist de Cleenc and Robert Julea de Cleene by tho Compensation Court in Palmerston North yesterday. The claim (which totalled £4775) was made by the two brothers against the Palmerston North City Council in respect of land taken by proclamation for a motor camp and recreation ground and Centennial Drive at the lower end of Jickell Street. The Hon. r. Justice Blair presided and associated with him were Mr. A. M. Ongley and Mr. C. v -V. Ciochctto, assessors for the claimants and the respondents, respectively. Mr. G. I. McGregor represented the claimants and Mr. H. R. Cooper appeared for the city council. In announcing the award, his Honour said that it was a majority one. Mr. Ongley did not concur in it. The rate of interest on the amount was fixed by the court at £5 per centum per annum from the time of the taking of the land by proclamation to the date of the award. Costs amounting to £75 were awarded against the respondents, plus disbursements to be arranged by the Registrar. Fees for the assessors were fixed at £2l each and this amount is to be paid by the respondent*
