Nurses Provide Sparkling Fare

SUCCESSFUL OPENING OF “HOSPITAL REVUE.” Bright entertainment was achieved by the large team of nurses from th« Public Hospital Avho staged “Hospital Revue” in the Opera House, Palmerston North, last evening before a large and appreciative audience. The performers obviously were amateurs behind the footlights, but there Avas no denying their enthusiasm, and colourful ballet sequences, delightful musical scenes and humorous sketches followed each other in quick succession. A happy relationship between the players and the audience Avas established right from the start when the complete cast participated in a snappy opening set which might have been improved, however, with the judicious use of a little light. It Avas clearly apparent that the nurses on the stage were deriving as much fun and gaiety from their endeavours as were the onlookers, and this was the .provocative key to which the entire revue, with one exception, was pitched. The %»olitary exception was the Grecian sequence which included an extract from “Trojan Women,” with a requiem dance. Although masterfully executed, it just did not “lit.” The show, which is extremely generous ia the degree of entertainment provided, could delete this scene without impairing the quality of the revue. The Old Time Music H&U Set waa particularly Avell staged, even though the four “ballerinas” in the can-can ballet looked a trifle self-conscious in revealing black net stockings instead of their more familiar, and, doubtless, more comfortable, white lisle ones. The wide range of entertainment it reflected in the great variety of sets produced. The revue will oe staged finally tonight in the Opera House, when the proceeds will be donated to patriotic funds. “Hospital Revue” is clean, sparkling, refreshing fare and merits wide public support.
