Establishment of New Industries
The organisation for national development wrote to the Palmerston North City Council on Monday evening intimating that from enquiries now being received from manufacturers and others who are contemplating the establishment of new industries or the expansion of existing ones within the Dominion, the. administrative machinery of the Organisation for National Development in collaboration with local authorities, can play a very important. part in influencing the ultimate location of these enterprises. They find themselves placed at a considerable disadvantage, however, by reason of the fact they had inadequate information in the form of maps at their disposal to place before prospective manufacturers; that the information already obtained from local bodies will assist materially, but those making preliminary investigations invariably ask for more specific information as to whether land for heavy and light industry is actually provided under a proper zoning system aud as part of an accepted plan, for the area. The organisation also stated that to be in a position to indicate clearly not only the actual zones but also the unoccupiod land in the area which may be obtained for industry, and asked the council to consider the matter with a view to furnishing the information roquired. It was decided that the communication be received and, in view of the discussion which the city engineer had had with Mr. Cox, representative of the Organisation for National Development, that the city engineer be instructed to complete the information required and submit same to the council for approval.
