Final Fanatical Appeal On Fuhrer’s Birthday
(By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) Received Friday, 12.30 a.m. LONDON, April 19. Goebbels, in a speech to-night for Hitler’s birthday anniversary, said: “Hitler and the Germans are faced with the last and severest test with the enemy surging against Germany from the east, west, southeast and south in a bid to deal the death blow to the Reich. Germans never before have had to face such enormous dangers against their bare existence. To-day is not the time to present the Fuhrer with the traditional congratulations. To-day much more must be said by one who has stood by his side for 20 years, who has witnessed with him unprecedented historical victories and horrible setbacks. Europe has decided in favour of latent anarchy and paid for it with the sufferings of millions. ‘ ‘ There is not much time for a second decision. The choice is between life and death. What we see to-day is the last act of the immense drama which began in August, • 1914. What we thought we could evade in November, 1918, we have now to make up for thrice over.” Goebbels again appealed to the Germans to hang on. He added: “These ordeals are our last. The war is approaching its end. The enemy’s madness has already passed its climax. The perverse coalition between plutocracy and Bolshevism is breaking up. “Fate has crushed Roosevelt, the head of the conspiracy. The same fate has preserved the Fuhrer so that he might be able to complete the mission Destiny intended for him. Germany once the war is over will again flourish and other nations will join hands for Europe’s reconstruction. None but Hitler can point the way to such an aim.” Goebbels ended his speech with a fanatical plea. “Hitler can point the way out of misery to millions of men throughout the world. We stand behind him determined to the last sacrifice. We vow that we will never let him down. Fuhrer! Give us your order. We will follow! ’ ’
