Notes of the Day

This evening in the Feilding Methodist Sunday School hall a welcome will be extended to Rev. and Mrs. Eaton, of the Methodist Church.

On Saturday evening in the Makino hall a gift evening will be tendered Miss Pilcher and Mr. Malone on their approaching marriage. Miss Wells, of Pharazyn Street, Feilding, yesterday received word that her brother, Pte. Dan Wells, who has been a prisoner of war in Germany since October, 1941, has been repatriated and has arrived safely in England. Pte. Wells left with the Second Echelon and enlisted in Feilding. To-morrow Feilding will hold its autumn cattle fair with an offering of over 2000 head of station cattle. A formal welcome home was extended to Mr. C. H. Moore by the Mayor of Feilding (Mr. T. L. Seddon) together with representatives of the Patriotic Society, R.S.A. and Red Cross Society on Monday evening at the Borough chambers. In welcoming Mr. Moore the Mayor referred to the splendid courage of Mrs. Moore over the years of anxious waiting for news and paid tribute to her work with the Red Cross Society in Feilding. The Feilding Golf Club's draw for a fourball bestball bogey to be played on Saturday is: Giesen and Reickenback v. Blundell and Arnott; Thomas and Barltrop v. Donaldson and Tingey; Miles P. C. and Vowell v. Addis and Niccolls; Farquharson and Murch v. Gover S. A. and Clevely; Stewart and- Hausmann v. Gorton and Lawrence V. R.; Stichbury and Parkes v. Seifert and Salmond; Beattie and McLeod v. Hay and Curtis; Whiteman and Loch C. v. McCorkindale and Carthew; Bray and Lawrence B. v. D. Fergusson and P. G. Miles; Burke and Rev. Fergusson v. Drube and Tate. Mr. Hutton, of the British Sailors’ Society, addressed a meeting in Feilding called for the purpose of arranging a street and shop day to be known as Merchant Navy Day in aid of seamen's missions in Wellington. Three Wellington missions were combining their appeals and the Flying Angel and Apostles of the Sea would share equally in the proceeds. It was agreed to ask the Salvation Army to assist in the street collection as last year, and Mrs. A. C. McCorkindale, as president of the Women's Patriotic Committee, was appointed to organise the shop arrangements. It is hoped that the appeal will meet w r ith the generous response accorded last year’s effort in Feilding, when
