Petty Olficer W. Hansen and A .fie Seaman G. Ramage are spending their furlough at their respective homes in Tokoinaru. Each is to be tenderer a welcome home. Mr. J. Mapson, of Apiti, who has been an employee of the Pohaugiua County Council for 25 years, was accorae a motion of sympathy in his illness, a yesterday’s meeting of the council. Cr. H. G. Arbou, the new Tawaki riding member of the Pohangiua County; Council, took his seat for the first tl ®*® at yesterday’s meeting. He replaces nis late brother, Mr. M. V. Arbon. The promotion of Major (Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) C. H. b&wyers, D.S.O. (New Zealand Artillery), to the rank of lieutenant-colonel is among the appointments and promotions or officers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force gazetted yesterday. Major J. R. Williams, D. 5.0., is to be temporary lieutenant-colonel while commanding the New Zealand Infantry Battalion. The Minister of Health yesterday, announced the appointment of Dr. G. M. Richardson as research officer. Dr. Richardson is a New Zealander who graduated at Victoria College and has during the past 16 years been doing research work in London. At present he is serologist in the pathological laboratory of the British Ministry of Health. He holds the degrees of M Bc. (N.Z.), Ph.D. (London) and D.Bc. (London). Dr. Richardson is a New Zealander of outstanding ability and very considerable experience in the field of research, said the Minister. He will eb attached to the University of Otago and while there will devote himself to virus research with particular reference to influenza. His services will also be of great value in many other research problems.
