Precision Diving
Last niglit at a swimming carnival held at the Municipal baths, Flying Officer Mortimer and Miss Burgess, both o.t‘ Ohakea, gave a diving display of rare and beautiful precision. Flying Officer Mortimer is well-known throughout the North Island for his diving, and last night’s, judging from the applause of the many spectators, was one of his best performances. Generous Firm. “It is a marvellous gesture. We can expect something like that coming from good old England,” said the chairman, Mr, J. H. Frater, at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, when it was reported that an English firm which had contracted for the supply of ten cranes for the new export wharf had waived price variation clauses in its tender, the decision meaning a saving to the board of £3508 in New Zealand currency. The total contract price was £84,860 sterling.
