Manawatu District Trades council
In compliance with u request from the District Trades Council, Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P., spoke to a gathering of council delegates and the various trade union representatives on the local Trade Training Advisory Committee. Mr. A. Humphreys, president of the Trades Council, was in the chair. Mr. Hodgens outlined the work already done in the placing of several returned men under the trade training scheme, and outlined the procedure that should, be followed by members of the Trade Training Advisory Committee. Mr. Hodgens stated: “Realising that the war has made it necessary to make civilians into soldiers, the Government will do all that is possible to successfully reverse that process, turning soldiers into civilians, ineu aud women v.ho will make a great success in civil life, and work as they have as warriors.” Mr. Brown, a member of the Rehabilitation Committee of this district, was also in attendance, aud was able to answer, in conjunction with Mr. Hodgens, the questions put forward dealing with trade training and rehabilitation in general. McDonald; furniture workers, Hi. N. Oldham; painters, Mr. A. Little; timber workers, Mr. R. C-ollius; plasterers, Mr. T. B. Nicholson; plumbers, Mr. Dixon; carpenters, Mr. C. Y. Christiansuu; printers, Mr. B. T. Hickey; bakers Mr, W a Allan.
