Is Red Cross Commissioner Necessary?
(Per Press Association.) GIWBORNE, Feb. 36. IV hen asked if he had any comment to make on Brigadier Falconer’s statement that a Red Cross Commissioner was necessary in the Middle East, Colonel A. 8. Muir said to-day that, in the light of his extensive experience in the Middle East, during which lime he was a member of the welfare committee of the Second N.Z.E.F., which acted in an advisory capacity to the National Patriotic Fund Board Commissioner, and had had ample opportunity to become fully cognisant with the work of both Commissioners, he adhered to his contention that the duties of the National Patriotic Fund Board Commissioner and the Red Cross Commissioner could be carried out satisfactorily by one competent man. Colonel Muir said that he recollected quite clearly Brigadier Falconer indicating to him in the New Zealand Forces Club in Bari that the work of the National Patriotic Fund Board Commissioner did not keep him as fully employed as he desired to be. What had caused Brigadier Falconer to change his opinion he could not say, but that did not alter the speaker’s opinion that one man could do both jobs.
