100 Dogs on Parade At Kennel Club’s Show

The Annual Show of the Alanawatu Kennel Club was held on Child Bros.’ property in AlcGiffert Street on Saturday when 100 dogs were paraded, the largest number since pre-war years. There was a good attendance of the public and keen interest was shown by the children and adults alike. The most successful exhibitor at the show was Air. S. D. Geary, of Alasterton, who won outright the Rose Bowl and Pink and Collinson Cup for best dog in show with his pointer, Stanford Statesman, who also won the Victory Stakes* a special class for all breeds, as well as the Sporting, Visitors and Open Stakes. The cup for the best in show of opposite sex, was won bv Air. and Airs. Young’s Alsatian, Tala, of Wanganui. The Sedgebrae Cup for best cocker spaniel in show went to Airs. Lacey’s Bing Bowdler, while the cup for best greyhound in show was won by Air. C. Riches’ First Aliaharo. At the conclusion of the judging, the president, Air. Learmonth, offered congratulations to the prize-winners and the judge. In thanking Child Bros, for the use of their property, Air. Learmonth said that he hoped that next year would see tho war over and the club back in its old quarters in the showgrounds. The judge, Mr. H. Hinchliff, of Wellington, complimented the club on a most successful show and said that the quality of dogs paraded was equal to any in New Zealand.
