Rain, Gales and Floods On Italian Front
Received Sunday, 8.15 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 28. Italy was almost completely stripped of most of her medical supplies when the Germans lotted the Institute Chimio e Farmaceutuco Militare and carried off hundreds of tons of supplies, says a correspondent in Italy. Only the prompt action of the Allies in despatch ing hundreds of tons of supplies saved the people from a serious health crisis. To date some 4800 tons of medical supplies have reached Italy from America. Fifth Army tanks entered Rocca San Cascianio 15 miles from Forli, says the Exchange Telegraph’s correspondent in Italy. Reuter’s correspondent in Italy says: “The virtual halt in Allied activity caused by rain, gales and floods has given the Germans an oppontunity to reinforce their defences southeast and south of Bologna. Saturday's Allied Mediterranean communique states “Extremely bad weather in the past 48 hours has brought operations in Italy virtually to a standstill. On Thursday the cruiser Aurora, the escort aircraft-carrier Emperor and the destroyers Turian and Tepcott bombarded the Island of Melos. The Island of Piscopi northwest of Rhodes was occupied that night by troops landed from the cruiser Sirius. “Adverse weather on Friday restricted the Mediterranean Air Force‘3 to routine patrols and attacks on enemy communications. Fighterbombers attacked bridges in Northern Italy. Three aircraft are missing.’ l GERMANS GETTING OUT OF SALONIKA R.A.F. pilots reported on Saturday that Salonika was covered with <moke from demolitions, and it is evident that the Germans aro preparing to leave the city, says a correspondent in Greece. German evacuation trains have left Katerini on their way out. One p>lot reported nine trains in the Katerini station and trains every fe.v miles between Katerini and Salonika. R.AF. ■nediinn bombers operating from Greece are impeding the enemy’s evacuation.
