157 Enemy Planes Destroyed in Two Days

GBEAT DESTRUCTION BY MEDITERRANEAN AIR FORCE Received Saturday, 1.26 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 1. “Sixty enemy planes were destroyed on tbe ground In an attack by Strategic Air Force fighters yesterday on tbo airfield at Reghlu,’’ reports a Mediterranean air communique. “It Is now known that 97 enemy planes were destroyed on the ground in operations on Wednesday. “Tactical planes on Wednesday night attacked transport in North Italy. Yesterday they attacked bridges, roads and railway transport in North Italy and gun positions, supply dumps and transport in the Italian battle area. Other planes attacked targets in the Rhone Valley area, transport and bridges in Yugoslavia, and coastal shipping in the Gulf of Genoa and the Adriatic. Our bombers last night attacked the railway yards of lerara. We destroyed 12 enemy planes in these operations for the loss of 11. The Mediterranean Air Force flew approximately 1400 sorties.”
