Thirty applications for stock totalling £6,340 were received yesterday for the Victory Loan in the Palmerston North postal district. Investments in National Savings and War Bonds from Monday to Wednesday total £4,991. The grand total of investments to date is £156,321, which represents 10.5 per cent, of the district’s objective. Investments to date include:—
Hodder and Tolley Ltd 7500 J. C. Young 1000 Howard Abbott Mfg. Co. .. • • .. 500 Mr. Angus McKinley 100 Mrs. Mary Ridd 100
The stalls in the city were again well patronised yesterday, a good number of sales being registered. This week those in charge are members of the W.W.S.A., St. Andrew’s Guild, and the Minesweepers’ Comforts Committee. The bond waggon which is touring tbe North Island will arrive here on September 24 and remain until the morning of the 26th, when it will leave for Levin.
Messrs J. C. Young and W. R. Eggers (chief accountant of the Reserve Bank) addressed a meeting at Levin on Tuesday, when the Mayor (Mr. H. A. Phillips) presided. Mr. Eggers spoke on various aspects of war finance and Mr. Young appealed for cooperation among all sections of the community in wholehearted support for the loan. Everybody should be inspired by the appeal of the Leader of the National Party, Mr. S. G. Holland, and his words should be taken to heart by all who have the available funds to invest. There must be a genuine squaring up to realities and if that is done the loan will be floated in record time. Dannevirke’s Enthusiasm
At Dannevirke last evening, the Rotarians had arranged a special V ictory Loan meeting, when some 80 representative men, including farmers, listened to a particularly interesting variety of aspects of taxation dealt with by Mr. W. R. Eggers. His treatment of the inflation phase was specially appreciated and a number of questions were dealt with. Mr. J. C. Young followed, taking for his talk tho campaign theme song, “Back the Attack,” much to the appreciation of the most enthusiastic gathering. Dannevirke’s quota is £156,561; last year they raised 97 per cent, of their objective and the organisation is enthusiastically determined to reach similar results again. Mayor Gibbard moved a hearty vote of thanks to the speakers. Strong Committee Formed at Bulls After an interesting meeting at Bulls yesterday afternoon, Mr. R. Mackay presiding, when Messrs. Eggers and Young gave addresses and a number of Questions were discussed, the meeting ecided to actively promote the loan and the following executive was elected:—Messrs. R. Mackay (chairman, R. O.
