Rongotea
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr. A. N. Morcom presided over the monthly meeting of the Patriotic Committee. The chief business was the presentation of the financial report by the treasurer, Mr. A. G. Dear, and members expressed satisfaction when he announced that the quota for the Rongotea-Tangi-moana-Carnarvon district had been filled again this year, besides which there would be a credit balance of approximately £BO. All the canvassing had been done by members of the Rongotea R.S.A., to whom Mi'- Morcom tendered the thanks of the committee. Letters of thanks were also to bo sent to Mr. Trevor Hogg and the R.S.A for their donations of £8 6s and £4 10s respectively, being the net proceeds from social functions. Correspondence from Zone E indicated that the district quota for national parcels had been reduced from 66 to 50, and it was reported that supplies could be procured immediately. As these would be the Christmas parcels, it would bo necessary to have them packed soon, and the ladies’ committee was asked to undertake this task again. On Thursday evening Mr. A. K. Drew addressed a meeting of the National Savings committee and members of other organisations in Rongotea to stimulate interest in the meeting which will be held on Thursday to explain matters in connection with the Victory Loan. Ho mentioned that hitherto the quota arrangements had been unsatisfactory, as various districts in the Manawatu County had not been credited'with their contributions to war loans because contributors who banked outside then* own area had accordingly been lost to their own district. This time the county would act as a unit, and the whole of the arrangements would be explained at a public meeting, as already advertised. It was anticipated that Messrs J. C. Hunt and Eggers would be present to give any explanation required and answer all questions. Mr. Drew asked those present to do all in their power to promote a splendid attendance at tho meeting in Rongotea, which had been chosen because of its central position in the county. Provided cars were filled, benzine licenses would be granted where necessary. The miniature baths at the Rongotea School have been completed and reflect credit on all those concerned in the work. They should give satisfaction to those who have subscribed to the baths fund. A concrete path has yet to be constructed right round the baths, but this cannot be undertaken until the filling-in has consolidated. There has been a generous response to the appeal for funds, over £IOO being already in hand, though the canvass is by no means complete. Though details have not so tar been settled, it is proposed to have the baths sheltered In some way, with a width of lawn outside tho concrete path. On Thursday night Corporal Alrd and Privates E. Clare and H. A. Dixon received a welcome home. A concert programme was provided by Mrs. Powell’s Revue Company. Mr. W. A. Churchill spoke on behalf of the local R.S.A., after which Mr. W. Amey, chairman of the Social Club, extended a welcome to the guests of honour who were presented with a cheque from residents of the district. Pte. H. A. Dixon, in reply, expressed thanks not only for the presentation but also for the many parcels which they had all received while overseas. A pleasant evening was then spent in dancing, while the returned men took the opportunity to speak with their many friends.
