Rotary in Palmerston North
Y r esterday the Palmerston North Rotary Club held its annual meeting. The president, Air. W. B. Tennent., read the 20th annual report in which he stated that, with other members of the community, members had carried their full share in the national war effort. The club was well represented in the forces and in all activities on the home front and as regards patriotic efforts, members had been up to the front. The ladies of Rotary were giving valuable assistance in many directions and their sewing circle under Airs. Jaggard bad made many useful articles for those in need in England. Their raising the sum of £l5O at the patriotic shop for the three days in Manawatu constituted a record. Ho went on to say that the club membership now stood at S 4. Rotarian R. Jaggard had constituted what the club understood was a world record of 19 years’ 100 per cent, attendance, while vßotarian G. F. Frarnjee was following close up with 13 years to his credit. The club had recommended the establishment of a youth and community centre in Palmerston North and offered its cooperation to the Cily Council should they proceed with the proposal. On September 6 and 7 the president, vice-presidents and secretaries of all the North Island Rotary Clubs are to meet in Palmerston North for an assembly. (Air. G. Pattle was duly elected as president for the year and Air. Tennent presented him with the chain of oilice. In doing so he wished him the best of luck. sergeant at arms, All*. C. Ciochetto. Past president W. Riddet thanked Air. Tennent for all he had done for the club and
asked him to convey to Airs. Tennent the club’s thanks and best wishes. It was also decided to send a letter of appreciation to the ladies sewing circle under Airs. Jaggard for the good work they are doing.
