HORSES FOR WANGANUI YESTERDAY’S TRACK WORK AT AWAPUNI MANY HORSES WERE SCHOOLED Tlero were many interesting trials at Awapuni yesterday morning "both on the flat and over the schooling hurdles hut the going was greasy and the flags were fifty feet out on the course proper. Te Kawiti (W. J. Stevens) and Airlio (V. Sellars) were among the first to work and they travelled a mile smoothly in 1.58, coming home strongly in 12 2-5, which was not bad in the going. Whackic sprinted six on his own. He took 16 for the first furlong but after finding his feet he travelled kindly to run the last five in 1.10 1-5 and the full distance in 1.26 1-5. Nighean (M. Andrews) appeared to bo going a shade better than Lady Spiral at tho finish of a mile run in 1.55 3-5 but there was little between them at the post. Good Scout (A. G. Waddell) and Solver (S. Waddell) were not under pressure at any stage while running seven in 1.43 1-5. Vera Lynn (J. Jenkins) travelled, smoothly over five and she ran the last three in 42 to complete in 1.9 4-5. Phalaria (S. Waddell) Teas given a “pipe-opener” over three in 40 1-5. Classform (C. A. Bowry), who is to race at Manawatu, worked once round with the pace on for the last three in 41 4-5. Glen Urquhart (Andrews) was in front of Merry Pal (A. G. Waddell) at the end of five in 1.12 1-5. Pennyroyal and Observatory maintained an even pace over six which they ran in 1.25. It was quite good work. Moderate (A. G. Waddell) and Lady Midian (H. Pearce) took 1.25 1-5. Sandy Cape (W. J. Stevens) and Tintern (Sellars) were going well at the end of five run in 1.10 3-5. Hod Glare (Jenkins) and Authoress (J. Bowness) worked well over a mile, travelling kindly all the way to complete in 1.56 2-5. Bendemeer appeared to handle the going better than Vernon and Golden Tide, breaking 1.27 for the last six of Alchemy, a good track worker, was travelling comfortably at the end of seven run in 1.41. Pongi and Aristocrat took 1.45 for seven, Gold Bridge and Monmouth 41 for three, Beneve and Arco 50 2-5 for four, breaking 41 for the last three, Te Wanaka slipped over throe in 42, Sovereign Lad over seven in 1.44 1-5, and Brilliant Scholar and Gay Witch over five in 1.10 2-5. Over the Country. Coaster (N. Howard) and Opaltown (J. Fagan) went once round over the country. They jumped soundly although the last two fences, the logs and sod wall, had them guessing. Over the Schooling Hurdles.

There were a number of trials over the schooling hurdles. The going was tricky and distance did not appear easy to judge at some of the fences. Glaciate (Rex Beale) and Mountain Fox (Fagan) went over four flightß with plenty of pace on. They rapped a couple but gave a good display. Light Fair (Howard) and Young Charles (W. J. Stevens) followed. They jumped well and they would have gone better still had Young Charles been a bit keener to gallop. All In (Beale) and Noble Fox (Fagan) went twice round, jumping cleanly and with plenty of pace on. Abdicate (Fagan) and Rhodes (Bowry) gave a good display over four Colonel Bogey (Murray) went twice round on his own, doing liis work like a real tradesman. Crackerjack (Howard) and Sporting Gold (Paul) jumped four fences. Tho latter jumped into a clear lead at the third fence but Crackerjack was shaken up and they finished together. Park Light (Miss Freda White) and Ascot Bloom (E. Baker) gave a faultless display over four flights. Kanui to Pai and Flying Tor were to have gone to Ellerslie but tho trip was cancelled because of transport difficulties. ASHBURTON ACCEPTORS ASHBURTON, May 29.
