Idle Day at Westfield

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 30. Following a stopwork meeting this morning of 1000 mon and women employed at the Westfield freezing works the employees decided not to commence work for the day. All departments were idle for the entire day but a general resumption is expected to be made to-morrow morning while the negotiations are continued between the union and the employers’ representatives on the issues in dispute. A meeting was held to discuss the claims of the chamber hands for new conditions and those of the shacklers on the beef slaughtering floor for increased wages.
