Travel for Farm Workers A remit carried at yesterday's intcrProvincial conference of the Farmers’ ; Union in Palmerston North urged that < dairy farmers, dairy farm workers and dairy factory workers be granted per- 1 mits to travel by rail during June and July. | Reduce Broadcasting . 1 The inter-Provincial conference of the Farmers’ Union in Palmerston North yesterday was of opinion that broadcasting should be curtailed still further in order to save electric power so as to avoid the cutting off of water heaters on dairy farms. One delegate thought two hours a day would be quite sufficient for the dissemination of news and other urgent matter. The 1 conference also adopted a recommendation that the broadcasting stations bo reduced during the power shortage to ' one in each of the four main centres. |: This would also save manpower. ;

Electricity in Backblocks The inter-Provincial conference of the Farmers’ Union in Palmerston North yesterday passed tho following remit: “That as a rehabilitation meas ure the Government be asked to undertake, in conjunction with each Electric Power Board or Electric Supply Authority concerned, the reticulation of sparsely populated areas in New Zealand, and that the cost of such reticulation be financed by the Government out of accumulated profits derived by | it from the generation of electric power sold to Electric Supply Authorities.
