Axis Satellites Don’t Relish Air Raids
Received Monday, 10.50 p.m. LONDON, May 29. According to reports from the Balkans the Allied bombing campaign in the late winter and spring resulted in a striking loss of sympathy for the United States and to a lesser degree for Britain, says the New York Times Ankara correspondent, while at the same time Russia’s popularity is increasing. Germany’s stocks have not rlson despite propaganda efforts since the peasants of Hungary, Rumania and Bulgaria apparently recognise that the Axis cause is lost. The Rumanians complain of the British and American raids—particularly the daylight attacks causing great loss of life whereas the relatively few Soviet raids against ports Buch as Galatz and Constanta have not been so costly. Tho bombings are encouraging war weariness both in Bulgaria and Rumania and the present political crisis in Sofia is doubtless partially due to it. The tension in Bulgaria has reached a climax, says the Moscow radio. Bulgaria has been without a Cabinet since the Premier (Mr. Boshiloff) resigned on May 23.
