A Tounching Case
Recently the general public of New Zealand, through the agency of the Lepers’ Trust Board, scut gifts to the value of £SOO to the 435 lepers of uIJ creeds and colours in New Caledonia. The goods Averc distributed through the British Consul and a very touching scene was witnessed when the presents were handed out as a “goodwill token” from our Dominion. The following extract is taken from a newspaper in New Caledonia: “It was a truly moving spectacle to see these poor disinherited folk. How many faces showing signs of suffering were brightened by a smile of gratitude. With cries of ‘Loug live New Zealand,’ the poor patients with laden arms desired to thank those who had in tho goodness of their hearts wished' to cheer them, to bring them a littlo! comfort in the hard calvary they were' bearing with resignation. For ono day the patients were gay; they had forgotten their pains and suffering. They had been thought of far away in the country of New Zealand,
