Feilding A. and P. Association
Tho annual meeting of the Feilding A. and P. Association on Friday night found cause to record every satisfaction over the success of the year ’s activities and the soundness of the financial position as revealed in tho balance-sheet. Mr. B. McLeod (retiring president) presided and in speaking to the report (already published) Mr. L. J. Wild offered several suggestions for consideration. Dealing with the exhibition of stock he suggested that dairy type cattle should be judged not only on appearances but also production qualities. Where entries in various classes were weak, they should be encouraged by increasing the prize money, and in that manner, Mr. Wild felt that interest would be stimulated and a wider variety of stock shown for the education of the patrons. Before vacating the chair in favour of the newly-elected president (Mr. W. H. Henson), Mr. McLeod stated- that he very much appreciated the cooperation accorded him by officers and members of the committees and was grateful to the secretary (Miss D. Millar) for her wonderful service, particularly in connection with tho Show organisation. He congratulated Mr. Henson on his election and wished him a successful term. Mr. Henson returned thanks, paying tribute to the work of the retiring president and Mrs. McLeod. Mr. Henson felt that the Society should continue its activities ou account of the great need for production and improvement in the quality of live-stock. The retirement of Mr. J. G. Eliott, past president and a member of the committee for 30 years, was referred to and it is proposed to make him an honorary life member of the Society. Mr. It. Richardson, farm manager, was accorded a special vote of thanks for acting in that capacity vice Mr. H. D. Brewster, now in the Armed Forces. Vacancies on tho executive committee were filled? by Messrs A. C. Buist, J. Knight and B. McLeod. Members expressed satisfaction over the strong financial position and Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick stated that he liopod to see the time when the membership would reach the- 1000 mark. A message was received from Squadron-. Leader E. W. Barnett, who intimated that, now his health had been restored, he hoped again to take an active part in the Association ’s work.
