BEEF AND MUTTON TONE IMPROVES The tone of th j live market in Feilding j’esterday was decidedly more buoyant than that of last vveelc and Jn all departments there was active < ompetition. Mutton values improved with shorter entries and a continuance cf buying by freezing interests which absorbed practically the whole of the offering of lamb and also participated in competing for other classes. The quality, was light in the beef section but prices Armed up on last week. A strong tone was manifested in the case of the in-lamb ewe. Fat Sheep. With an entry of under 2000 head the fat sheep market registered an improvement, higher values opeialing for all masses with good competition- prevailing including that of freezing interests. The yarding was made up of approximately 1100 lambs, 500 owes, 70 wethers and a very short offering of blackface 2-ths. Store Sheep. A particularly good sale was experienced by vendors with offerings in the store sheep section. The yarding of inlamb ewes was numerically stronger than last week and competition was strong. The realisations were: 156 4 and 5-yr. ewes at 19s 9d, 183 6-th. to 4-yr. ewes at 27s 4d, 65 2-ths. at 25s 9d, 72 2-ths. at 30s 6d, 74 4-ths. at 28s, 119 4-ths. at 2Ss, 232 4 and 5-yr. at 21s 6d and 21s Id, 129 5-yr. at 21s 6d, 87 4-yr. at 28s 3d, 67 5-yr. at 16s Bd, 52 m.a. at 24s 9d, 35 5-yr. at 23s 2d, 356 4-yr. at 245, 102 4-yr. at 22s 6d, 65 4 and 5-yr. at 22s Gd; fattening ewes at 11s. The store lamb and wether market was also firm. Some of the realisations were: 158 ewe lambs at 265, 83 do. at 21s, 96 do. at 23s 4d, 73 wether lambs at 15s lOd, 167 do. at 18s 4d, 54 blackface lambs at 12s sd, 30 2-th. wethers at 25s 7d, 90 4-ths at 275. Fat Cattle. The tone In the beef section was stronger than last week although Ike over-all quality was inclined to be light and unfinished. Heavy fat Hereford cows carrying a bit of age made from £8 17s Od to £lO 12s 6d and others from £7 1-s Gd to £9 12s 6d. Unfinished cows changed hands at from £7 6s to £7 12s Gd. Light A.A. heifers made from £7 17s 6d to £8 7s 6d and light steei-s to £9. Vealers sold as follows: £3 ss, £3 10s, £3 19s, £4 10s to £5 12s. Ex-dairy cows made from £3 7s 6dto £7 7s 6d. Station Cattle. Station cattle were represented in an entry of mostly female lines which were disposed of on a firm market. The realisations included the following: 19 A.A. heifers at £7 6s, 5 do. at £5 ISs, 3 do. at £5 7s, 14 do. at £B, IS do. at £o 13s, 9 do. at £6 11s, 4 do. at £5 9s, 20 empty A.A. cows at £7 2s 6d, 14 do. at £7 Cs, 7 Hereford cows at £5 15s, 17 A. A. weaner heifers at £3 10s, 9 do. at Js4s, 16 20-mtlis. steers at £7 ss, two at £i 4s. Store Cattle. There was active competition for the offering of store cows with prices as follow: 295, £3 ss, £3 10s, £3 12s, £o lis Gtl, £3 .18s, £4, £1 7s Od, £4 _l3s, £4 15s, £4 17s 6d to £5; bulls, £5 15s; cows and calves, £4 5s to £4 15s. Dairy Cattle. Weaner Jersey heifers figured prominently in the dairy section where late rates prevailed. Prices were: Springing heifers, £4, £9, £9 10s to £lO ss; springing cows, £5 15s, £l2, £l2 5s to £l2 10s; heifer calved, £S 6s; Jersey weaner heifers, £2 2s Gd. £3 ss, £3 12s Gd. £3 15a, £4 15s, £4 l?s, £5 Bs, £5 9s to £o
