Emphatic Protest

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I wish to protest against the assertion iu your sub-leader of May 25 in which you state that the alternative nominees to the sitting members of the Wellington Harbour Board, Messrs W. L. Fitzherbert and M. A. Eliott, were standing purely for political purposes. I resent this implication, having served my country in the last war for four years overseas and come of an old pioneer family with an untarnished record. And then to read your leader in spite of my advertisements in your paper setting out my Independent candidature together with my declaration | from the public platform. This 1 take as a direct and unfair attack against my integrity and candidature. I claim, Sir, as a citizen tho right to offer my services to my fellow citizens for the Palmerston North City Council and Wellington Harbour Board as an Independent candidate —a right for whick as a soldier I fought.—l am, etc.,
