Election Personalities
Mr. W. D. Campbell, who has acceded to tho request of several deputations to stand as a candidate for tho City Council elections, has been a citizen and ratepayer of Palmerston North for many years. Until he retired recently ne had been an engineer at the Longburn freezing works for 36 years, the latter 24 years as chief engineer. Ho is a New Zealander by birth and has had extensive all-round engineering experience. Prior to coming to Long* burn he was chosen by an English firm to go to America to instill and operate one of tho largest goldmiuing dredges of those days. Mr. Herb. Jensen, at tho request of a number of citizens, consented to offer to stand as an independent candidate for the City Council, also for the Catchment Board. Mr. Jensen was born in New Zealand 47 years ago and has had much practical experience in farming and contracting, and is the managing director of a successful firm in contracting which has put through many big jobs, including tho diversion of the Vlangaone stream, two river cuts near Shannon, many stopbanks, and the over-bridge ramp at Paraparaumu. He patented the Jensen mole drain plough [n 1925, now an essential implement for fanners. He is a keen movie photographer, being a member of the Amn teur Cino Society, also tho Danish .Society, and has been a bandsman of this city for 32 years. Mr. Jensen was to have retired lust Christmas, but owing to the war conditions has derided to carry on. Ho served with the forces during the last war, and has a son in the R.N.Z.A.F.
