Burgesses of Feilding will be called upon to exercise a vote for the election of a representative on the Manawatu Catchment Board and this question will no doubt prove perplexing to voters in the absence of any knowledge of the candidates offering. There is also considerable ignorance respecting this newlycreated Board and its functions and this will add to the difficulty particularly so as Feilding has not chosen to nominate a candidate for the scat. For the purposes of the constitution of the Board, the boroughs of Feilding, Levin, Shannon, Foxton and Otaki have been grouped and under this grouping one representative is required. Four candidates have nominated and the difficulty will be for Feilding voters to decide which of the four shoulu represent the combined boroughs. The method of arriving at a representative i- 1 - not a happy one and the electors of Feilding are more or less in the dark. The new Board is part of the organisation set up under the Soils Conservation and Rivers Control Scheme and the Manawatu Board will be representative of a number of counties, boroughs and the City of Palmerston North. The Board will have rating powers to provide revenue for the work of flood prevention, etc., which it will, among other duties, be charged with dealing with. It is expected that before polling day, some annoucement to assist burgesses will be made to avoid the vote of Feilding being wasted.
