John McCormack Retires A report from London states that after a severe illness, John McCormack, the Irish tenor, has decided to retire, and will probably never be heard in public again. Since the war began he has resided for most of the time in London, and has sung on many occa sions to soldiers. McCormack, who is GO years of age, made his debut at Covept Garden in 1907, since when he has been heard all over the world. Russell Street School Gala Considerable financial aid came to the Oaths fund of the Russell Street School us the result of a gala day held at the school on Saturday afternoon and evening. Despite showery weather during bath sessions, there was a good attendance of parents, friends and children, aud they patronised well the stalls, games and competitions. The arrangements were in the hands of the ladies’ and men’s committees, and a pleasing feature of the afternoon session was the help given by past pupils of the school.
