Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Henley, of Wanganui, celebrated the diamond jubilee of their wedding recently. Mr. Henley came to New Zealand from England with his parents at the age of 12 years in (he ship Berar and landed at Somes Island in 1875 after a voyage of 100 days from the East India Docks, London. 110 was in quarantine for two weeks and then journeyed by the steamer Mamwvatu to Wanganui, where ho has lived for 69 years. Whilst employed by the sash and door factory Mr. Hendley inaugurated the sash and door factory brass band. He later founded the Trinity Young Men’s Institute Brass Band, which later took the name of the Wanganui City Band and later still the Queen Alexandra’s Own .Mounted Rifle Band, of which he is a life member. In the following years he was associated with many notable bands and orchestras. He played in the band at the funeral of the late John Ballance, the burning of the old hospital on the rivet bank, and the opening of the present hospital. Mrs. Henley was born in 3 86) at Geelong, Victoria, Australia. They have four sons, four daughters (one of whom is Mrs. F. Goldsmith, of Lower Hutt), eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
