Invercargill to Have No Liquor Yet
WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. By the Licensing Act Emergency Regulations passed last Friday, the election of an Invercargill Licensing Committee is postponed for six months and the Status quo in Invercargill as a no-license district is maintained until a Licensing Committee is elected. The Minister for Justice (Hon. H. G. R. Mason) said to-day it had been considered expedient to postpone the election pending further consideration by the Government of the most satisfactory .means of meeting the present abnormal circumstances prevailing with respect to building conditions and in adequacy of premises suitable to be granted licenses under the Licensing Act. An early opportunity would be taken of seeking parliamentary approval of the postponement embodied in the regulation.
