Willard Home Board
The first meeting of the year of the Willard Home Board was presided over by Mrs E. C. Barnett. Tho secretary E. Jennings), reported that donations had been received from Miss Whit- , taker (£l2 16s 3d), Commercial Travellers’ Association (£100), younger set of the Bed Cross Society (£2 10s), Kimbolton School children (£3 10s), and the Rotary Club (£10). Donations were also acknowledged from private donors to whom letters of thanks had been sent. The secretary reported on action taken concerning children in the home and on maintenance and repair work. The: matron reported that six children had been admitted making the total number in residence 28. They had spent a happy, holiday at Foxton Beach and had bene- - flted by the change. Miss Robinson, who had terminated her duties, had been succeeded by Miss Curtis. Through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs Nicol the children had attended a matinee at th* Opera House, the proceeds of which had been donated to the home. A Novel Competition. A social afternoon on tho Manawatu Croquet greens caused a great deal of f amusement and enjoyment when the 1 mothers of the club entertained the ■ grandmothers, who had previously defeated them in competition games. The : Grandma’s v. Mothers’ competition was introduced into the club last season and has proved an outstanding success, the defeated team being responsible for the entertainment of the victors. Opportunity was also taken to congratulate the members of the club who so successfully ( competed in the Manawatu tournament, held last week and these members were 1 presented by the president with dainty 1 shoulder sprays. |
