Advice was received yesterday by Mrs. L. XV. Jenkins, Poole Street, that her son, Cpl. D. H. Jenkins, had been discharged from a hospital in Italy. Enlarged photographs of blitzed London, some of them measuring 6ft. by 4ft., have arrived in New Zealand and are to i-e exhibited in various centres for the benefit of patriotic funds. The Feilding Patriotic Society has decided to accept the opportunity of arranging for an exhibition in Feilding at a date in the near future. The pictures comprise a collection of most remarkable photographs and are bound to attract unusual interest. Arrangements are well in hand for the Patriotic Leap Year Pall to be held in Feilding on Tuesday next. The Women’s Patriotic Organisation is handling the details and proposes to co-opt the services of young people who have manifested a desire to assist the function which should be an answer to all who feel like participating in a first class dance. Larkin's orchestra has been engaged for the music and a first class supper is promised. Shortly after midnight on Monday Feilding experienced the tail-end of the storm which visited Auckland over the week-end. A heavy northerly wind with drenching rain suddenly descended over the district and endured for about twenty minutes. It was one ol the hottest nights experienced this summer, but the rain failed to cool temperatures. Yesterday the day was very still and in the early afternoon a very heavy rain shower was experienced. The brief storm was experienced in Apiti according to reports of settlers. Found sleeping under the Aorangi bixdge at Feilding, Thomas Alexander McCiiegor, aged 71 years, and John William Miller, aged 41 years, were each sentenced to three months imprisonment by Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., at the Feilding Magistrate s Court yesterday. Both were charged with vagrancy having no visible means of support. The police stated that McCregor was in receipt of tile ago benefit under thu Social Security Act yet he with Miller admitted begging both food and money from the Salvation Army. Money had been advanced to McGregor on the security of his age benefit certificate but he hud not done anything about making a refund. Both had lists of previous convictions and had arrived in Feilding to sleep under the bridge. Proposals for the incorporation of ail intermediate school in the Feilding educational system were further explored at a special meeting of the Board of Managers of the Feilding Agricultural High School on Monday evening when the primary schools’ interests were repre- ; sented by the chairmen of the school committees. Mr. L. J. Wild, headmaster of the High School, who initiated the idea, explained more fully the proposals and also gave an enlightening outline of what he visualised as the educational setup for Feilding, incorporating all phases , from infant to adult education and em- | bracing the eommmunity centre institu- : tion. His more detailed and explanatory remarks concerning the intermediate school proposal, the scope for which was offering in Feilding, revealed the practicability of the scheme which the chairmen of the Manchester and Lytton Streets' schools’ committees expressed themselves as being impressed with. Messrs Z. McLeod (Manchester St.), and C. V.
