Sportsmen Careless

Several farmers round Dunedin have suffered losses of stock as tlie result of carelessness of sportsmen while out rabbit shooting. On the Otago Peninsula not long' ago a valuable filly was shot, and on a farm on the north line two cows Were found dead as the result of bullet wounds. The release of many •22 rifles by the military authorities has been followed by an increase in the number of rifle registrations at the Dunedin police station, and the police authorities have asked that all sportsmen should exercise the greatest care when shooting. Though ammunition is still difficult to obtain in quantity, there has been a noticeable increase iD the number of rabbit shooters out in the districts round Dunedin recently, particularly during the week-ends.
