A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mrs. J. A. Wilkinson was passed in the usual way at the meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers yesterday it being resolved to send a letter to Mrs. G. G. Hancox, daughter of the deceased lady. Mrs. W. Orr, Dominion president of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, has just concluded an extensive tour of the executives of thq division throughout the North Island, returning to Wellington yesterdaj*. This afternoon she will meet members of the local branches at Dominion headquarters to discuss progress made in connection with the establishment of the rest homes. The death occurred recently in Invercargill of Mrs. W. Barclay, wile of Dr. Barclay, a well-known medical practitioner of that town and medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital prior to going on active service with the N.Z.M.C. in the last war. Airs. Barclay was formerly Miss Violet Petersen who entered the nursing profession at the Palmerston North Hospital and became well-known and popular among a large number of people in this city. On joining the N.Z.A.N.S. she left for service overseas on the hospital ship Malieno in January of 191(1, Dr. Barclay being a member of the ship’s medical staff. Mrs. Barclay recently visited this city for the wedding of her son, Dr. Stephen Barclay of the Palmerston North Hospital, and her friends received a painful surprise on learning of her death. Much sympathy has been extended to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Field and Miss Doris Field, of Okoia, and formerly of Ilalcombe Road, Feilding, in the death of their eldest daughter Esrna on October 21 at the age of 27 years. Her illness, which was a protracted one, was borne with Christian patience and for titude till the end. Born at Bulls, the la£e Miss Field attended the Alt. Bigp: School and resided with her parents on the farm property on Halcombe Koad. A loving daughter and sister, she wa: of a quiet disposition and her man} friends will retain a fragrant memor of her. The funeral took place to tin. Alanarawa cemetery, Fordell, Kev. B. F. Carlisle, of Feilding, assisted by Rev. Thos. Watson, of Wanganui, conduct mg services at the residence and cemeI tery, when personal tribute was paid, j Alany friends from Feilding, Palmerston North, Kongotea, Halcombe and Wanganui attended the services, while many messages of condolence and floral tributes were received. The pallbearers were Messrs G. Alai, J. Field, E. Svendsen, R. Fowles, J. Clark, A. Davey, C. S. Hunt, J. Gloyn, L. Fergusson and others. The continued popularity of the Melody dances in the ballroom behind the Palmerston North Opera House was evidenced by the excellent attendance on Wednesday night. Another of these popular dances will be held to-night at 8.30.
