What could have been a nasty accident was fortunately avoided when the railway bns from Wellington early on Monday morning skidded off the road just beyond tho Ngawaparua bridge and came to rest leaning an - a fence. The only passenger, a serviceman, who was deeping at the time, was unhurt as was the driver. No reason for tho skid was given, but perhaps the driver, being new to the run, did not appreciate the poor turface on tho curve.
