Engagement

EOBINSON—HANSEN. The engagement is announced of Iris May, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Hansen, Tokomaru, to Kenneth Percey (Nick), second son of Mr. and Airs. P. K. . Bobinson, Newtown, Shannon.

The clubrooms in Kangitikei Street were gaily decorated with spriug flowers for the September social afternoon of the Sunshine Club. Airs. Waller welcomed members and visitors, and Mesdames Sykes and McCulloch were hostesses. Songs by Aliss Greening ami elocutionary items by Miss J. Holmes were much appreciated, Airs. Boon being at the piano. Competition winners were Mesdames Doherty (lucky cup), Waller and Wilson, and winners in the articles for the patriotic shop competition were Mrs. Sykes 1, Mrs. Spencer 2. On the motion of Mrs. Doherty, a donation was made to the women's franchise committee, and Airs. Arthur Just offered to make shoulder sprays for Sunday. One guinea each was donated to the Willard Home and All Saints' Children's Home, and also the usual monthly donation of one guinea to the minesweepers. Airs. Dornan, a member, very generously donat--3d one guinea to the club funds, and Mrs. Watson offered an iced Christmas ;ake for competition for the Christmas omforts fund.

Mrs. D. Evans presided at the Sep.ember meeting of the Minesweepers l Jomforts Circle. Miss E. Warren reported that during August 16 jerseys, 10 pairs homespun seaboots, 5 pairs socks, 3 pairs mittens, 6 balaclavas, 7 pairs summer gloves, 12 hussifs, a total of 59 articles, had been sent to headquarters in Wellington; nine pairs of seaboots had been received from Mrs. Mclndoe’s spinning circle and two pairs of seaboots from the County Club. There was still a shortage of wool. Mrs Mclndoe reported that 3 balaclavas, 9 pairs seaboot stockings, 1 jersey and 1 jcarf, all of excellent quality, had bee

leived from the United Guild Spinning Circle. Mrs. A. A. Langley stated that 11 fruit cakes and 301bs. biscuits and shortbread had been sent to the flying Angel Mission to Seamen, Weiington. Donations were received from the Sunshine Club, Mesdames Seceor, iunn, and “K, ,} and a fleece was reeived from Mrs. E. C. Barnett, interesting letters from men serving in the Navy were before the meeting. All these men had received gift parcels from the circle.
