Borak, a better horse than ho was on the first day, again won the hurdles, and the only one to challenge him in the run home was Mansura. Hunting Mac was in front before they had gone far but he hit the third fence hard. Half a mile from home Hunting Mac jumpea away from Circular Note t 6 hold a good lead running to the last fence but one. There Borak jumped into second place and Mansura followed him ahead of Circular Note, Moderate and Monmouth. Borak had the race won at the last fence but Mansura put in a good late run, finishing a length away from the winner.' Hunting Mac was five lengths away third and Moderate was fourth. Solver Won Well. Solver was always well placed in the apprentices' race and after a sharp tussle with Hamish and Lady Spiral half way down the straight, he drew away to win decisively by two lengths. Sir Fox, Thumbs Up, Skyette and Theatre missed the jump out, the early leader being Vera Lynu, from Solver and Hamish, Sports Flash and Viking Path. Hamish went up fast and was with Solver into the straight. Vera Lynn did not go on with it but Keen Play and Royal Son finished well, Keen I Play being two lengths from the winner at the finish. Royal Son was another half length back, just in front of Hamish. Gulf Stream Beat Financial. Gulf Stream took charge running to the three in the Guineas and although Royal Heir and Magnus Lux were with him at the home turn, Gulf Stream drew away and it was left to Financial to issue the only challenge, Gulf Stream winning by a neck. Greek Art, Royal Heir and Gulf Stream led into the back from Carnforth, Financial and Pallelle. Greek Art dropped back at tno homo turn
where Financial went up to take on Gulf Stream, the pair finishing well clear of Linbury and Magnus Lux. Punters “Off the Mark." Little fancied horses paid the dividends in the Trial Handicap and the winner was Peter's Choice which got up to beat Ozel by a head. Beneve was third over three lengths further back. Ring Scarf, Ozel, Hunting Comet, Leisurely, Matawene, Valconia, Toora Vale and Royal Greek was the order as they ran to the straight and Ozel turned for home well clear. Peter's Choice gradually overhauled her and won by a head. Beneve finished well for third and All Bunsby was fourth followed by Toora Vale, Ring Scarf and Valconia. Aqueduct Much Improved. Tho Higgle Handicap was won by the Wairoa-trained gelding, Aqueduct, from Alexcelia and Crucible, the winner's margin being decisive. Full Hand missed the jump out and Amigo and Aqueduct were setting n good pace as they left the straight. The field was well strung out before they had gone half a mile. The order into the back stretch was Aqueduct and Amigo, from Vivid Night, Crucible, Flying Hawk, Noble Fox and Nighean and Sanction. There was little exchange to the straight except that Aqueduct was clear of Amigo. Out on the better going, Aqueduct went on to a throe-length victory from Alexcelia, which finished with a rattle to cut Crucible out of second money. Flying Hawk was a close fourth and next home were Sanction, Full Hand and Night Ray. Sovereign Lad Beats Flahuluk. The Moutoa Hack Handicap was won by Sovereign Lad from the same stable as Borak. Flanuluk finished fast into second place and War -Effort was third. Skipper Gay set the pace from Sovereign Had which joined him at the home turn, the pair leading into the straight followed by Gold Dip, Foxchase, War Effort, War Credit, Bunsby and Flahuhuk. Sovereign Lad had the race won a long way from home but Flahuluk finished brilliantly to get to within two lengths of the winner. War Effort was a length and a half away followed by War Credit, Cheap Lodging and Young Jim. Flying Ace Just Beat Whackie. There was an exciting finish to the open sprint and Flying Ace hung on just long enough to beat Whackie by a head. Betterman, one of the last away, was third three lengths back, and Sir Bradbury, also slow away, was fourth. Prince Plato, Lady Acora, Flying Ace, Paymaster, Sir Bradbury, Ring Chief and Whackie was the order at the three but Sir Bradbury and Flying Ace were first into the straight. Whackie issued his challenge at the distance and although he was closing on Flying Ace at the finish, Flying Aco got to the line a head to the good. All the placed horses were slow to leave tho mark, Powys Won Nicely.
There was a big field for the concluding event, which was won by the Te Kapa-trained iiorse, Powys, from The Grand and Foxcover.
Powys, Darag, Gay Falcon and The Grand were prominent at the home turn and Powys went to the front at the distance and won well from the fast-finishing The Grand by half a length. Foxcover finished on into third place just over a length away and Kahuranaki was fourth.
