Fifth Army Continues its Offensive
(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Received Monday, 1.5 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 19. The Germans have completely evacuated Sardinia and have withdrawn to Corsica following an attack by two Italian divisions, says the Algiers radio. An Algiers communique says: “The Eighth Army continues its advance at a rapid rate and the Fifth Army continues to push forward. Altavilla and Battipaglia are in our hands. “Reinforcements are being brought in according to plan. Increasing numbers of troops with supplies ana vehicles are being unloaded by the Allied navies on the beaches of the Salerno area. During Friday’s assault, good results were obtained from the supporting bombardment by American warships. ’ ’ Marshal Badoglio is reported to be in North Africa organising an army from the ranks of Italian prisoners of war, says the British United Press Berne correspondent. King Victor Emmanuel and the Crown Prince Umberto are believed to be at Monreale in Sicily.
