Received Monday, 1.30 a.m,

PEARL HARBOUR, Sept. 19. A oommunique issued by Admiral Nimitz states: “Strong Pacific Ocean area forces heavily raided the Japanese bases on Tarawa Island north of the Gilbert group, also Nauru Island during Saturday and last night.” Both islands contain airfields which are used as outposts for the Japanese strongholds in the Marshall and Caroline islands.
