West Coast Rivers In High Flood

(Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, Sept. 19. The Buller and Orawaiti rivers have been in high flood as the result of heavy rain and it ■was thought at one stage that there might be flooding of the town, but nothing of the kind has happened and it is believed that the worst of the storm is over. The railcar dia not arrive from Greyraouth to-day because of a washout near Ikamatua and a subsidence at Rahui, but it is hoped to repair the latter and to have trains to-morrow connecting on the other side of the Ikamatua washout. Shipping is at a standstill pending a reduction on the flood in the Buller river. A number of vessels are loaded ready to sail as soon as the weather moderates. Private S. Hindmarsh, Democratic Soldier Labour candidate for Palmerston North, will address electors at the Russell Street School to-night at 8.
