Obituary

Death has claimed another of the early residents of NeAv Zealand in the person of Mrs. Catherine Da wick, ot Lombard Street, Palmerston North. Born in County Antrim, Ireland, Mrs. Dawick came to these shores as a young woman in 1887. In IS9G she married the Into Mr. E. S. Dawick, of Wellington. They lived in various places and finally retired in Eltham and came to live in Palmerston North in 3932. Their are left to mourn their loss one daughter, Mrs. N. L. Hickton (Mananui), and two sons, Messrs P. G. and A. D. Dawick. There passed away in Palmerston North recently another of the eyly settlers of the district, Mrs. Si&ah Smith. Mrs. Smith, who was born in London in 1870, came to New Zealand at an early age and lived for nearly 50 years at Kimbolton, first making her residence there when the country around Avas coAercd with bush. In 189.5 she was married to Mr. F. Gerke. The couple made their home at Kimboltou, Mr. Gerke being engaged in farming pursuits. Following the death of Mr. Gerke shortly after the beginning of the century, liis Avidow stayed on at Kimbolton and after some years married Mr. G. .Smith. About three years ago the couple retired to live in Palmerston North, Avhero Mr. Smith died IS months ago. One son, Mr. J. Gerke, survi\-es.
