Subscx-ibers to the Feilding Municipal Library during August numbered 870 compared with 752 for the same month last year. A total of 3615 books were changed and fees received in the l'ental section totalled £l6 2s 3d compared with £ll 5s 6d for August, 1942. The following are the statistics for the Feilding Municipal abattoir for the xnonth of August, those for the same month last year being given in parenthesis:—Cattle 156 (141); sheep 587 (561); pigs 77 (53); vealers 3 ( —); bobby calves 2771 (2734). Fees amounted to £IS7 4s 11 against £169 3s 4d. In connection with the Patriotic Shop Day in Feilding to-day, the children of Manchester Street School will hold their flower day, devoting the proceeds to patriotic purposes. It is anticipated that the public generally will accord the shop day to-day generous support to max’k the successof the United Nations’ forces in securing the surrender of Italy. This important event is worthy of celebx - ation in a practical manner by supporting patriotic fund#.
