Naval Ratings Replace Strikers
Received Thursday, 11.10 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 9. A number of ships manned by naval ratings has sailed from a New South Wales port where members of the Seamen’s Union are on strike because their demands for the dismissal of a chief steward had been refuspd. Naval crews have also been allotted to other vessels affected by the dispute. The Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, said the Government would back the Maritime Commission and its stand on the dispute. All steps requisite to ensuring that the ships arc kept moving would be taken.
