Victory Day Fixed For September 18

WELLINGTON, Sept. 9. A further statement was issued tonight by the Prime Minister (Hon. P. Fraser) with regard to arrangements for celebrating on a national scale Italy’s capitulation. Mr. Fraser sairi it had been decided that the most fitting manner in which New Zealand’s part in the whole war effort could be symbolised, was by holding big parades wherever possible in all centres, large and small, throughout New Zealand on Saturday, September 18. As in the case of United Nations’ Flag Day, the cooperation of mayors and chairmen of local bodies throughout the Dominion would be sought and local authorities would be communiacted with. Mr. Fraser added that in order to make 3uch parades symbolic of the whole of New Zealand’s war effort, there would be full representation of the various armed services, merchant seamen and women’s war organisations. In the production section of the parades the kevston6 would be representation of the industrial war effort.
